Mindfulness Resources

Here are some mindfulness resources I recommend to my clients:

54321 Mindfulness Technique

Before starting this exercise, please tune into your breathing. Slow, deep, long breaths can help you maintain a sense of calm or help you return to a calmer state. Once you find your breath, go through the following steps to help ground yourself:

5: Acknowledge FIVE things you see around you. It could be a pen, a spot on the floor, anything in your surrounding space.

4: Acknowledge FOUR things you can touch around you. It could be your hair, an object, or the ground under your feet.

3: Acknowledge THREE things you hear. This could be any external sound. If you can hear your stomach rumbling that counts too!

2: Acknowledge TWO things you can smell. Maybe you are in your office and smell pencil shavings, or maybe you are in your bedroom and smell your sheets. If you need to take a brief walk to find a scent you could smell soap in your bathroom, or flowers outside.

1: Acknowledge ONE thing you can taste. What does the inside of your mouth taste like—toothpaste, coffee, the meal you ate for lunch?

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.

KT Counseling is now accepting Aetna in both CA and UT, as well as EMI Health in UT. KT Counseling is out of network for all other insurance at this time. The fee for working with me at KT Counseling is $125 per 50-minute session. You are asked to pay the full fee unless you are facing serious financial hardship in which case we can discuss sliding scale fees and policies before the start of your first session. We are happy to provide a “superbill” receipt that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out of network reimbursement, however, KT Counseling will not fill out forms or work directly with or on your behalf with your health care insurance company.

Therapy sessions are paid via credit/debit card via Square or via the IVY app.
